Assam: ULFA-I Extortion Racket Busted; One Arrested in Tinsukia

Tinsukia: In a significant breakthrough, Assam Police have arrested a person in connection with an extortion racket operated in the name of the United Liberation Front of Asom – Independent (ULFA-I).

The accused, identified as Mintu Moran, was apprehended by the Pengeri Police during a raid in the Tongona area of Kakopathar. He is alleged to have demanded Rs 50,000 from a local businessman, claiming it was for the medical expenses of a ULFA-I cadre.

While Moran is now in police custody, another suspect, Surajit Moran, alias Kalia, from Pengeri’s Nalani village, remains elusive. Law enforcement agencies are actively pursuing leads to track down the absconding individual.

The arrest comes as a relief to the local populace, who have been grappling with the threat of extortion and intimidation. Police authorities have assured the public that they are committed to dismantling such criminal networks and maintaining law and order in the region.
