Assam: ULFA-I ‘warns’ Assam police to Prove Bhargav Gogoi’s involvement

Guwahati: The hardcore Ulfa (Independent) faction has challenged Assam police to show the role of one Bhargav Gogoi, who was recently arrested by Dibrugarh police on suspicion of being an outfit handler.

In a joint operation with the CRPF, Assam police nabbed Gogoi, a resident of Bamunbari, on Saturday.

According to reports, Gogoi was in contact with ULFA-I chief Abhijit Gogoi alias Aiseng Asom and was recruiting new cadres for the organisation.

In an email statement on Monday, Ulfa (I) publicity wing member Rumel Asom said, “Gogoi is not involved with the group in any way. We challenge Assam police to prove that he is a member of Ulfa (I). State police have been harassing youths and people of the state in the name of Ulfa (I) just to gain personal benefits and perks. This is a sign of mental imbalance of state police officials.”

New cadres were joining the organisation just because they were motivated by the idea of an independent Assam, according to the outfit.

“Police must understand that the fight between Ulfa (I) and the Indian government is not a law-and-order problem,” he continued.
