Assam: Unauthorised Medical Institute Sealed in Kokrajhar
Guwahati: The Kokrajhar district administration on January 20th sealed Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Medical & Paramedical Institute for operating without the required permissions and regulatory approvals.
The enforcement action, led by Executive Magistrate Dhrubajyoti Das and supported by Kokrajhar Police Station personnel, comes as part of a statewide crackdown on illegal and unrecognised health science institutions.
Government regulations mandate that any institution offering education or training in health sciences, including pharmacy, nursing, physiotherapy, and laboratory technician courses, must obtain due permission from Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences (SSUHS). This includes private universities and institutions, as per Notification No. MER 307386/2 dated 06-06-2023, which requires them to secure affiliation with SSUHS to operate legally in Assam.
Since Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Medical & Paramedical Institute failed to obtain the necessary approvals and affiliation, the district administration took the decisive step of sealing the institution. This action aims to prevent the institute from misleading students by offering potentially invalid degrees and diplomas and to ensure that health science education in the state adheres to established standards and regulations.
