Assam: Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya Inaugurates CGHS in Silchar
Guwahati: Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, inaugurated the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) Wellness Center in Silchar of Assam on Wednesday.
According to the minister, the wellness centre will offer high-quality medical care to a sizable portion of the local community.
Mandaviya while inaugurating the centre said, “In a significant achievement to strengthening the country’s health infrastructure and accessibility to CGHS services, there has been a threefold increase in the number of Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) Wellness Centres. The cities covered by CGHS Wellness Centres have has grown from 25 in 2014 to 75 now. This is in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji to provide easily accessible healthcare services closer to the communities.”
The New CGHS centre will offer medical services for retired Central Government personnel living in and around Silchar, including Karimganj, Hailakandi, and the Barak valley.
The minister said, “The new Wellness Centre would cater to the medical needs of several thousands of beneficiaries and would mitigate their hardships, as they will not be required to travel to such faraway places now.”
During the official ceremony, the minister was joined by Silchar’s Dipayan Chakraborty, MLA, and Dr. Rajdeep Roy, MP (LS).
Silchar is the third city in the state to have a CGHS Wellness Center after Guwahati and Dibrugarh. It is also one of the 16 new CGHS centres that the government is opening up around India in an effort to increase the reach and accessibility of CGHS services.
The CGHS was established in 1954 in order to provide comprehensive healthcare to Central Government personnel, pensioners, and their dependant family members,
This programme currently covers more than 41 lakh beneficiaries across 75 cities.
