Assam: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Inaugurates Jogighopa Terminal, Aims to Boost Regional Trade and Employment
Guwahati: In a major boost to regional trade and transportation, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, inaugurated the Jogighopa Terminal in Assam’s Bongaigaon district today.
This development is poised to play a key role in strengthening economic ties between India, Bhutan, and Bangladesh, while generating significant employment opportunities in the region.
During his speech at the inauguration, Minister Sonowal emphasized the terminal’s transformative potential, particularly in enhancing trade and commerce among the three nations.
He said, “This terminal will have a major impact, especially for India, Bhutan, and Bangladesh in the field of trade. It will create numerous employment opportunities for the youth and drastically reduce logistics costs for transportation.”
In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for improved regional connectivity, Sonowal also remarked, “This is one of the most valuable gifts that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has provided to the people of Northeast India and Southeast Asia. Through initiatives focusing on waterways, the Prime Minister has paved the way for a remarkable transformation in this sector.”
The newly inaugurated Jogighopa Terminal is expected to serve as a major logistics and transportation hub, contributing to the economic development of the region and boosting international trade in the coming years.
