Assam: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Pays Tribute to Anti-Superstition Crusader Dr. Birubala Rabha
Guwahati, 29th May: Union Minister and former Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on May 27 visited the residence of the late Dr. Birubala Rabha to offer condolences to her bereaved family. Dr. Rabha, a prominent advocate against superstitions and social ills, tragically fell victim to the very superstitions she tirelessly fought against.
Dr. Birubala Rabha, renowned for her relentless campaign against superstition, founded “Mission Birubala” in 2011 in her native village of Thakurbila, located on the Assam-Meghalaya border. Her efforts have left an indelible mark on the fight against societal prejudices and the empowerment of women.
During his visit, Sonowal expressed his deepest sympathies and lauded Dr. Rabha as a cherished figure in Assam’s national life. He highlighted her fearless dedication to eradicating superstitions and prejudice, which has inspired many across the region.
Reflecting on his interactions with Dr. Rabha, Sonowal shared insights into their discussions on societal betterment and women’s empowerment. He pledged to honor her memory by continuing her mission to combat superstition and strengthen societal resilience. “Her tireless commitment to these causes will continue to inspire us to work towards a more enlightened and just society,” Sonowal stated.
In addition to paying tribute to Dr. Rabha, Sonowal expressed optimism regarding the upcoming general election results, set to be announced on June 4. He emphasized that the ongoing fight against superstitions and the promotion of social progress would remain a priority regardless of the electoral outcome.
