Assam: ‘Unmarked Speed Breaker’ Claims Life Of Woman in Jorhat
Guwahati: A woman lost her life in a tragic incident involving an unmarked speed breaker on the road connecting Borholla Village in Titabor Tehsil of Assam’s Jorhat district.
The victim, identified as Dulumoni Gogoi, was heading to a relative’s house to perform a three-day death ritual when the accident occurred.
Despite repeated accidents and complaints from the public, the Public Works Department and contractors had failed to provide suitable markings on the speed breakers.
The department had recently repaired the road and erected new speed breakers, but without proper signage.
This oversight has been criticized, with many questioning the department’s priorities and concern for public safety.
Following Gogoi’s death, local residents took to the streets in protest.
In response, the Public Works Department hastily marked two speed breakers with substandard white tape and placed two reflectors.
However, this move has been deemed insufficient, and the department’s lack of action has been widely criticized.
The incident has sparked outrage among the local community, with many demanding more effective measures to prevent such accidents in the future.
The Public Works Department’s slow response to the issue has been criticized, and it remains to be seen whether meaningful action will be taken to address the concerns of the public.
