Assam: Unrest Erupts in Tinsukia’s Panitola Following Burglary Arrests

Guwahati 14th May:Tinsukia’s Panitola witnessed a tumultuous situation as demonstrators stormed the Panitola police outpost, incensed by the arrest of individuals allegedly involved in a recent burglary incident. The situation escalated dramatically, prompting the police to resort to forceful measures, including firing and wielding batons, to disperse the agitated crowd.

The unrest stemmed from an alleged burglary at the residence of the co-manager of Panitola tea estate. Following a complaint filed by the garden manager, a woman and four men were arrested in connection with the burglary. However, allegations of physical assault during the arrests sparked outrage among hundreds of tea workers from the Panitola tea estate.

Protesters gathered outside the police station, vehemently protesting what they perceived as unjust treatment by law enforcement. Emotions ran high, leading to clashes between protesters and police personnel. The use of force further exacerbated tensions, highlighting deeper socio-economic grievances within the region.
