Assam Unveils ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita’ Scheme to Boost Rural Women’s Self-Help Groups

Guwahati, 11th January: In a press conference held on January 11 in Guwahati, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed an array of upcoming government schemes.

Notably, the state government is set to launch ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita,’ focusing on empowering women self-help groups in rural areas.

In the inaugural year, beneficiaries will receive an initial grant of Rs 10,000, followed by a Rs 12,500 grant from the state government in the second year.

Additionally, the bank will extend a loan amounting to Rs 12,500 to the beneficiaries, with the obligation of repayment resting upon them.

The chief minister outlined specific criteria for beneficiaries to qualify for the scheme. Under this initiative, women in the general and OBC categories should not exceed three children.

For women beneficiaries hailing from Moran, Matak, Tea community, and SC/ST backgrounds, a maximum of four children is permissible to avail the benefits of the scheme.

CM Sarma emphasized that the annual income of 7 lakh women engaged in self-help groups has seen a significant increase, reaching Rs 1 lakh this year. This initiative aims to uplift rural women, providing them with financial support and opportunities for economic growth.
