Guwahati, 4th October: The Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption in Assam has intensified its crackdown on corrupt practices, leading to the arrest of three government officials in separate bribery cases within the span of a week.
On October 3, Subal Ch. Roy, a Sub-Inspector at Barama Police Station in Baksa district, was apprehended while accepting a bribe within the police station premises. The bribe had been solicited from a complainant seeking the release of his vehicle, marking a significant step in the ongoing anti-corruption efforts.
Earlier, on September 26, Ranjit Kr. Sarkar, the Secretary of North Salmara Gaon Panchayat in Bongaigaon district, was caught red-handed in his office while accepting a bribe related to the processing of bills.
In a separate case, on September 21, Subodh Das, Sub-Divisional Officer of the Territorial Building Sub Division of PWD & NH in Mirza, Kamrup district, was also arrested in his office for accepting a bribe from a complainant, again in connection with the processing of bills.
These arrests come as part of the Assam government’s broader initiative to root out corruption and restore public trust in governmental operations. The Directorate has pledged to continue its efforts to identify and penalize officials engaging in corrupt activities.
