Assam: Villagers Lynch Royal Bengal Tiger in Mob Attack

Dumukhia village in Assam’s Golaghat district became the scene of a brutal mob killing on Thursday, May 22, as an adult Royal Bengal tiger was set upon and killed by residents. The incident occurred in the Khumtai area, where the tiger had reportedly injured several individuals in the days leading up to the attack.

Armed with an assortment of crude weapons including machetes, sticks, and rods, the villagers encircled the big cat before launching their fatal assault. Eyewitnesses describe a coordinated effort to corner the animal, which locals had deemed a “man-eater.”

Forest department officials, arriving on the scene after receiving reports of the incident, found the tiger already dead. The recovery of the carcass revealed a disturbing detail: several body parts were missing. According to a forest official, “We retrieved the carcass and found that some body parts, like a portion of skin, one leg and some meat, are missing.”

Upon the arrival of forest and police teams, the mob quickly dispersed, fleeing the scene. A case has been registered by the forest department, and an investigation into the tiger’s death and the missing body parts is now underway.
