Assam Villages Blossom with Massive Plantation Drive on World Environment Day

Guwahati: In a significant stride towards ecological sustainability, a massive plantation drive was successfully executed today across the villages of Riha Juli and Gamani in Assam. The initiative, marking World Environment Day, saw the active participation of government officials, corporate entities, students, and local villagers, all spearheaded by the 134 Ecological Task Force (ETF).

In Riha Juli, the verdant transformation was palpable as hundreds of saplings found new homes. The 134 ETF collaborated closely with educators and students from Reha Juli High School, turning the plantation into an immersive learning experience. Beyond simply boosting the green cover, the event served as a crucial platform to educate young minds on the indispensable need to safeguard ecological balance for a healthier planet.

A short distance away, the village of Gamani witnessed an even larger display of community spirit. Officials from the 134 ETF and Assam’s State Forest Department, alongside representatives from Dabur India Ltd., joined hands with enthusiastic local residents to plant over 5,000 fruit-bearing trees. This concerted effort underscored the increasing efficacy of public-private partnerships in advancing sustainable development goals right at the grassroots level.

Colonel Anurag Shrivastava, Commanding Officer of the 134 ETF, addressed the assembled participants, emphasizing the collective impact of such drives. “These collaborative efforts truly symbolise the spirit of unity for a greener future,” he remarked. “Every single sapling planted today is a significant step forward in our collective fight against climate change.”
