Assam: Violent Attack on Priest at Ponjan Chariali Namghar Sparks Outrage
A violent incident shook the peaceful ambiance of Ponjan Chariali Namghar on Yamuna Road when Hemchandra Das, a revered namghariya (priest) aged 65, fell victim to a brutal assault by a young man named Tony Das from Thanamukh area of Assam’s Sivasagar district.
The altercation erupted during a religious gathering when Tony Das, reportedly intoxicated, disrupted the solemn atmosphere with a barrage of obscene abuses. Hemchandra Das, in his attempt to restore order, politely requested Tony to leave the premises. However, his peaceful entreaty was met with a vicious attack by the inebriated young man.
