Assam: Wife Murder Suspect Surrenders in Bokakhat
Guwahati: In a dramatic turn of events that sent shockwaves across Assam, Dimbeswar Gogoi, the prime accused in the brutal murder of his wife, Romola Konwar, and subsequent abduction of their five-year-old child, has voluntarily surrendered at the Bokakhat police station. The surrender brings to an end a tense search operation that spanned two districts and captivated public attention.
Gogoi, originally hailing from Kathakali in Bokakhat, had relocated to Kathiatoli, Nagaon, after his marriage to Romola, a resident of Tubuki Grant. The gruesome incident unfolded on Tuesday, when Gogoi allegedly committed the heinous crime before fleeing with their young offspring, making his way back towards his native Bokakhat.
The tragic discovery of Romola Konwar’s decomposing body was made on Wednesday night, two days after the alleged murder. Worried relatives, concerned by the unusual silence from the house, took it upon themselves to force open the door, only to be met with the horrifying sight of Romola’s lifeless form, bearing unmistakable signs of violence. Police were immediately informed and arrived at the scene the same night to commence their investigation.
During preliminary interrogation following his surrender, Gogoi reportedly confessed to the chilling act, citing an extramarital affair as the motive behind his wife’s murder. Bokakhat police officials have confirmed that Dimbeswar Gogoi will be handed over to their counterparts in Nagaon for comprehensive investigation and the initiation of appropriate legal proceedings.
