Assam: Wild Elephant Claims Life Near Raimona National Park
Guwahati: Shantipur village in Assam’s Gosaigaon subdivision witnessed a tragic incident on Friday morning as a wild elephant attacked and killed a local man. The unfortunate event occurred near the fringes of the Raimona National Park, which falls under the Kachugaon forest division.
The deceased has been identified as Puren Goyari, a resident of Shantipur village. He had reportedly left his home early in the morning in search of a grazing pass, coinciding with the Bihu festivities and an auspicious Friday.
Eyewitnesses from the locality reported that as Goyari ventured into the forested area bordering the Raimona National Park, a herd of wild elephants unexpectedly appeared and attacked him. The assault resulted in severe injuries, leading to his immediate demise at the scene.
Upon receiving news of the incident from the local community, personnel from the police department and the forest department swiftly arrived at the location. Following necessary procedures at the site, Goyari’s body was transported to Kokrajhar for a post-mortem examination.
