Assam: Wild elephant found dead in Jagiroad

Guwahati, 23rd March: In yet another heartbreaking incident, a wild elephant was found dead in the forest area of Sonaikusi in Jagiroad, adding to the toll of elephant fatalities in the state.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the elephant may have slipped off a hillside and come into contact with an electric wire, resulting in its demise.

The presence of solar fencing, installed by the forest department to mitigate elephant-human conflicts, further complicates the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Authorities suspect that the elephant may have skidded and collided with the solar fencing, leading to its untimely death.

The incident serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing challenges faced in balancing wildlife conservation efforts with the safety of both humans and animals.

Efforts to prevent such tragedies and promote coexistence between elephants and local communities remain a priority for wildlife officials.

Investigations into the specific circumstances of this incident are underway, as authorities strive to identify measures to mitigate similar risks in the future.
