Assam: Wild Elephant Found Dead near Indo-Bhutan Border in Chirang
Guwahati, 9th January: Forest officials in Assam made a grim discovery as they recovered the carcass of a wild elephant in the dense jungle of Kalamati, located in the Indo-Bhutan border area of Chirang on January 8.
The cause of the elephant’s death remains unknown, prompting a thorough investigation by forest department officials and SSB personnel present at the site.
This incident is not an isolated one, as the Indo-Bhutan border area of Chirang has witnessed several instances of man-elephant conflicts leading to the death of both elephants and humans.
The encroachment of wild elephants into human habitation in search of food has resulted in such conflicts, contributing to the challenges faced by both wildlife authorities and local communities.
Over time, herds of wild elephants have ventured beyond their natural habitat, occasionally causing disturbances and posing risks to human safety.
Instances of elephants succumbing to electrocution and creating terror in the area have been reported, highlighting the complex dynamics between human settlements and wildlife in this region.
