Assam: Wild Elephants Destroy Widow’s Home Twice in Bijni, Spark Local Fear
Assam: In a distressing series of incidents, wild elephants from Manas National Park have wreaked havoc in Bijni, targeting the same home on two separate occasions.
The first attack occurred last Thursday night around 10 PM, when two elephants destroyed a government-allocated house in No. 1 Satola Danguri. Just days later, on Sunday night, the elephants returned, further damaging the home and destroying a significant stock of stored rice.
The house belongs to Monika Nath, a widowed mother of two, who had received the home under a government housing scheme. Struggling to provide for her children after the loss of her husband, Monika now faces additional hardship as the repeated destruction has left her devastated and fearful for her family’s future.
These incidents have sparked widespread concern among local residents, who fear the growing threat posed by wild elephants in the area. Families living near forested regions are calling for effective measures to prevent such occurrences and ensure their safety. The repeated attacks highlight the urgent need for long-term solutions to address human-wildlife conflict in the region.
