Assam: Wild Elephants From Raimona National Park Wreak Havoc on Hawriapet Village Crops
Guwahati, 4th October: Two wild elephants have strayed from the Raimona National Park and ventured into the village of Hawriapet, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake as they forage for food. The elephants have caused significant damage to local agriculture, ravaging rice fields, banana plantations, and vegetable gardens.
The residents of Hawriapet are on high alert as the elephants continue to move between villages, further threatening their livelihoods. Earlier this week, the elephants were spotted roaming freely through Bajugaon, where large crowds of onlookers gathered to witness the rare spectacle of the wandering giants.
Forest officials have since arrived on the scene to monitor the elephants’ movements and assess the extent of the damage. Efforts are underway to ensure the safety of both the villagers and the animals, while also exploring ways to prevent further destruction of crops. Authorities are encouraging residents to remain cautious and avoid provoking the elephants during their foraging activities.
