Assam: Wild Rhino Roams Freely, Sparking Panic Among Majuli Residents

Guwahati, 7th April: Residents of Majuli’s Charigharia area found themselves in a state of terror as a wild rhinoceros was sighted wandering near Namoni, igniting widespread panic among locals.

The alarming incident unfolded as the unexpected presence of the rhino caused distress among residents, heightening fear and anxiety within the community. Responding to the commotion, the rhino swiftly sought refuge in a nearby village pond, exacerbating the confusion and alarm among onlookers.

With the looming threat of a potential attack or untoward incident, residents expressed grave concerns about their safety, apprehensive of the unpredictable behavior of the rhino. The unsettling presence of the wild animal has left the community on edge, with a constant sense of impending danger pervading the atmosphere.

Reports indicate that, on average, four rhinos freely roam the vicinity of Majuli, presenting a persistent challenge to both residents and authorities. Despite efforts by the Forest Department to address the situation and mitigate potential risks, including attempts to chase the rhino away, the presence of the wild animal continues to unsettle the community.

Tragically, earlier on February 19, a fatal incident occurred in Bhakat Chapori, resulting in the loss of one life. This event underscores the severity of the situation and underscores the urgent need for effective measures to ensure the safety and security of residents in the region.
