Assam Witnesses Significant Tourist Influx, Recording Over 2.43 Crore Visitors in Four Years
Guwahati: Assam’s Tourism Minister, Ranjeet Kumar Dass, revealed in the assembly that the state has welcomed a substantial number of tourists over the past four years.
From 2021-22 to December 2024-25, a total of 2,43,64,180 tourists visited Assam, comprising 60,306 foreign tourists.
The year 2022-23 saw the highest tourist footfall, with 98,31,141 visitors, followed closely by 70,67,335 tourists in 2023-24. In contrast, the number of tourists in 2021-22 was 17,02,932, while 57,62,772 tourists visited the state in 2024-25, up to December.
To promote tourism, the state government has been implementing various schemes focused on infrastructure development, publicity, and skill development. In addition, efforts are being made to boost river tourism, including the introduction of luxury cruise services, ‘Jalporee’ and ‘Mahabahu’, on the Brahmaputra river. Plans are also underway for a ‘hop on hop off’ boat service, connecting major religious destinations along the Brahmaputra river, with a new body formed to oversee the project’s implementation.
