Guwahati, 8th April: Ahead of Eid al-Fitr and Bihu celebrations, a woman allegedly killed her three minor children and severely injured her younger sister with a sharp weapon in Karimganj district of Assam on Sunday.
The incident took place in Ramkrishna Nagar of the district.
According to police reports, the woman, identified as Shahina Begum, allegedly placed the bodies of her deceased children on the bed after committing the heinous act. She then attempted to end her own life by cutting her veins with the same weapon.
Local villagers alerted authorities upon discovering the gruesome scene, prompting swift action to transport the injured and the accused to the hospital for medical attention.
Liton Das, Officer-in-Charge of Ramkrishna Nagar Police Station, confirmed that a case has been registered under Section 302/326 IPC, and preliminary investigations are underway. However, the motive behind the incident remains unclear, and there is no evidence indicating any mental health issues with the accused.
During the time of the incident, the father of the children, Safique Uddin, was reportedly absent.
