Assam Woman Held in UP with Narcotics, High-Tech Gear
Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh: In a significant breakthrough against the illicit drug trade, Uttar Pradesh Police, in a joint operation with the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), have apprehended a suspected woman drug trafficker from Assam and her local accomplice in Bareilly. The arrests led to the recovery of a substantial quantity of contraband, sophisticated gadgets, and cash, further unravelling a supply chain extending from the Northeast into western Uttar Pradesh.
The arrested woman has been identified as Priyanka Das, hailing from Assam, who was allegedly in Bareilly to deliver a consignment of narcotics. Her accomplice, Simran Kaur, a local resident, is suspected of being an integral part of the city’s drug distribution network. From their possession, authorities seized a total of over 470 grams of illicit substances, comprising 211 grams of heroin and 265 grams of illegal opium.
Beyond the drugs, the joint team also confiscated Rs 71,120 in cash, a country-made pistol, a Bitcoin mining machine, and an array of other high-tech gadgets, underscoring the sophisticated nature of their operations. Inspector Dhananjay Pandey, Station House Officer of Baradari police station, confirmed that the ANTF’s action was prompted by intelligence inputs from Nagaland Police. These inputs indicated that a trafficker named Vimol Karmakar had dispatched a heroin and opium consignment to Bareilly, utilising mobile numbers linked to his wife, Priyanka Das.
Leveraging technical surveillance, the ANTF’s Bareilly unit successfully traced the suspects. Providing details of their capture, Inspector Pandey stated that Priyanka Das was intercepted on University Road, where she was found in possession of the 211 grams of heroin, cash, and a mobile phone. A drug detection kit confirmed the presence of heroin.
Following her interrogation, police raided Simran Kaur’s residence in the Sanjay Nagar area of the city. The search yielded 265 grams of opium, a country-made pistol, a bottle of hydrochloric acid, a Bitcoin mining machine, a laptop, a DVD player, an iPad, two electronic scales, and three mobile phones. Simran Kaur, during questioning, reportedly admitted to having supplied an opium consignment to her brothers, Jagjeet alias Kapil and Gurpreet alias Gopi, just days prior. Additionally, a Swift Dzire car (UK-06 AJ-0492), registered in Gurpreet’s name and allegedly used for drug trafficking, was seized from the location.
Both women have been formally booked under relevant sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act. Officials revealed that this gang has been instrumental in supplying drugs from the Northeast to various parts of western Uttar Pradesh, including Bareilly and Lucknow. The arrests are expected to significantly disrupt the flow of illegal narcotics in the region.
