Assam: Woman Killed, Child Injured in Elephant Attack in Goalpara District
Guwahati: In a tragic incident, a woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Gopalpur Tilapara, Goalpara district, Assam, on October 11, leaving a child critically injured.
The deceased, Mamtaz Begum, succumbed to her injuries during the attack, while the injured child was rushed to Goalpara Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Local sources report that a herd of elephants had wandered into the village in search of food, leading to the fatal confrontation.
The sudden appearance of the elephants caused panic, with villagers caught off guard by the animals’ destructive behavior.
The incident has left the community in deep grief, as residents express growing concern over the increasing frequency of human-wildlife conflicts in the region.
Authorities are reportedly working on measures to prevent further wild elephant incursions into populated areas.
