Assam Woman Killed in Road Crash on NH-06 in Meghalaya

A horrific road accident in the early hours of Wednesday on NH-06 at Shangbangla in Ri-Bhoi district, Meghalaya, tragically claimed the life of a young woman. The incident, occurring around 4:44 AM, involved a Hyundai Alcazar (AS01EV9578) travelling from Shillong towards Guwahati.

According to preliminary reports, the SUV, driven by Md Ismail Hoque Choudhury (33) of Haripur, Sipajhar, Darrang district, Assam, crashed into a stationary truck while attempting to overtake another vehicle. The Alcazar sustained extensive damage in the high-impact collision.

The vehicle was carrying five passengers in addition to the driver. Among them was Namrita Borah (25), a resident of Bachapathar, Golaghat, who was seated near the left middle door. She suffered grievous head injuries in the crash. Despite being rushed to Civil Hospital, Nongpoh, in a public vehicle, Ms. Borah was tragically declared brought dead by medical staff.

The other occupants of the SUV included Anayatul Watus (39) of Guwahati, Gayatri Borah (25) of Mangaldai, Pragya Dihingia (29) of Sonari, Charaideo, and Meriganka Borah (26) of Golaghat. Their conditions were not immediately clear.

Meghalaya police have initiated an investigation into the incident. Authorities are probing the circumstances surrounding the accident, including the presence of the unidentified truck which was reportedly parked stationary on the highway at the time of the collision.
