Assam: Worker Dies in Accident at Sipajhar Ethanol Plant Construction Site

Guwahati, September 14, 2024 – A tragic accident at an under-construction ethanol plant in Sipajhar claimed the life of one laborer and left two others critically injured on the morning of September 14. The incident occurred around 8:30 am when the three workers reportedly fell from a significant height while on duty. Sariful Islam, one of the workers, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Fellow workers have expressed grave concerns over the lack of safety measures at the site, citing inadequate security protocols as a contributing factor to the tragedy. They further accused the company authorities of neglecting their workforce’s well-being, including failing to provide proper medical care following the accident.

The incident has fueled demands for adequate monetary compensation for the victims’ families. In the wake of the accident, questions have been raised about worker safety standards and the exploitation of laborers in the industry, emphasizing the urgent need for workplace safety reforms.
