Assam: World Rhino Day Celebrated in Manas National Park with Focus on Conservation
Guwahati, September 22: World Rhino Day was observed today in the Bansbari forest area of Manas National Park, marking a global effort to raise awareness about the urgent need to protect and conserve rhinos. This annual event, held on September 22, brings attention to the conservation of one of Earth’s most iconic and endangered species.
This year’s theme, “Five Living,” highlighted the importance of protecting all five remaining species of rhinos. To commemorate the occasion, an early morning awareness bicycle rally was organized, drawing significant participation from the local community. The rally, which aimed to promote rhino conservation, was flagged off by Dr. C. Ramesh, Field Director of Manas Park.
In his address to the participants, Dr. Ramesh stressed the importance of public engagement in protecting rhino habitats and mitigating human-wildlife conflicts. He called for collective action to ensure the survival of rhinos, urging people to play an active role in conservation efforts.
Since its inception in 2011, World Rhino Day has become a crucial platform for bringing global attention to the plight of rhinos. The event in Manas National Park emphasized the critical need for community involvement in safeguarding biodiversity and preserving rhinos for future generations.
