Assam: Youth Arrested in Duliajan for Possessing IED and Pistol, Allegedly Involved in Extortion

Assam: A youth from Lahowal, identified as Bitupan Gogoi, was arrested by Duliajan police on Thursday for possessing an improvised explosive device (IED) and a pistol, following allegations of his involvement in extortion activities across several locations in the Ujan region.

Gogoi was apprehended after collecting two lakh rupees from Sepan Doba Tea Garden, where he had reportedly been extorting money from local businesses. The arrest followed an investigation into his involvement in similar extortion activities across upper Assam.

Police reports indicate that Gogoi had been planning an IED explosion at the Wilton Oil Depot in the Oil Tanker area, a potential act of violence that was thwarted by his arrest. Authorities also revealed that Gogoi had received training in IED construction at an NSCN camp, further intensifying the gravity of his actions.

In addition to the explosives and weaponry, the police seized several objectionable materials from Gogoi’s possession, which are currently under examination as part of a broader investigation. The police have pledged to continue their inquiry to uncover the full extent of Gogoi’s activities and to take necessary legal actions as new details emerge.
