Assam: Youth Arrested in Goalpara for Obscene Video Targeting Goddess Durga Sparks Outrage

Guwahati: In a shocking incident in Assam’s Goalpara, a young man named Abdul Kashem Ali was arrested for allegedly creating and circulating an obscene video that targeted Goddess Durga and women devotees during the idol immersion ceremony.

The video has led to widespread outrage and calls for swift justice.

The situation escalated after a peaceful Durga idol immersion across Assam, where thousands of devotees participated in the annual visarjan ritual.

However, the serene atmosphere was shattered when a derogatory video surfaced on social media, showing Kashem Ali, a resident of Dubapara Disappearchar under the Mornai police jurisdiction, making offensive remarks directed at Goddess Durga and women attending the event.

The video rapidly went viral, drawing condemnation from across the community.

Concerned citizens filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Mornai police station, urging authorities to act against the accused.

However, frustration mounted due to the lack of immediate action, prompting around 300 people to gather outside the police station in protest, demanding swift action and condemning the perceived inaction.

Responding to the escalating situation, the police, with assistance from local residents, located and arrested Abdul Kashem Ali at his residence.

After the arrest, community members voiced their concerns, stating that the video was not only disrespectful to the deity but also offensive to women, aggravating tensions across religious and social lines.

In response, police have urged the public to maintain peace and harmony and advised against actions that could lead to communal tensions.

Authorities assured that the case would be handled with utmost seriousness, and they intend to set a strong precedent to deter similar acts in the future.
