Assamese Film Actress Arati Barua Passes Away at 87
Guwahati, 1 June: Actress Arati Barua from Assam passed away at 1:10 PM on June 1st. She was 87 years old. She was the spouse of the musician and artist Luit Konwar Rudra Baruah.
According to reports, Arati who experienced a stroke on April 18 was undergoing treatment at GNRC.
In 1976, Aarti made her acting debut in Bhaben Saikia’s Sandhyaraag. She has acted in a number of films, including “Agnisnan,” “Sandhyaraag,” and others as well as TV series.
Arti Barua appeared in the award-winning Pratima Pandey biopic Sonar Boron Pakhi at the age of 82.
She was an innate artist who appeared on stage in more than 100 plays in Shillong and Guwahati alongside outstanding performers like Phani Sharma and many more.
She also served as the director of the Luit Konwar Rudra Barua Memorial Trust and authored a book on the songs of her late husband, the renowned singer and artist Rudra Barua.
Aarti was born on September 12th, 1935 in Tura. Aarti was a daughter of a civil servant, id her early schooling in Jorhat, Goalpara, Barpeta, Nagao and Lakhimpur. She completed her class 10 from Shillong and studied in Lady Keane College Shillong.
