Assamese Violin Maestro Minoti Khaund Honored with Sangeet Natak Akademi Amrit Award
Guwahati, 10th April: Renowned violinist Minoti Khaund, a stalwart in the realm of Hindustani instrumental music from Assam, was bestowed with the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Amrit Award in recognition of her invaluable contributions to the art form. Representatives of the Sangeet Natak Akademi visited her residence on April 9th to confer the esteemed accolade upon her.
Hailing from Jorhat, Upper Assam, Minoti Khaund’s musical journey commenced at the age of 10, under the guidance of her maternal grandfather, Mr. Biswa Sarma. Encouraged by his recognition of her innate talent and passion for music, Minoti embarked on a lifelong pursuit of excellence in classical music, spanning over five decades.
Expressing her elation at her mother’s achievement, Sunita Bhuyan, Minoti Khaund’s daughter and disciple, shared her joy, stating, “Happy to share that my mother & guru Veteran violinist Smt Minoti Khaund received the highest cultural award, the Sangeet Natak Academy Amrit award.” Despite being unable to personally receive the award in Delhi, a delegation from the academy visited her residence in Assam, where she was surrounded by her family and dear students.
Bhuyan underscored the importance of acknowledging and supporting artists from remote regions during their prime, emphasizing the proactive role of arts and culture agencies in nurturing talent.
Minoti Khaund’s dedication to teaching and popularizing the violin in Assam over the past six decades has left an indelible mark on the cultural landscape of the region, earning her widespread admiration and acclaim.
