Assam’s Barpeta District Undergoes Transformative Development Across Healthcare, Infrastructure, and Welfare Initiatives

Guwahati, 18th July: In Barpeta District, Assam, significant strides in development under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s administration are evident across various sectors aimed at enhancing the well-being of its residents. These efforts encompass extensive infrastructure upgrades, improvements in healthcare services, advancements in agriculture, and robust social welfare initiatives.

Healthcare infrastructure is poised for enhancement with the upcoming Sarukhetri district hospital and the operational Mother & Child hospital at FAAMCH Campus, set to provide 100 beds. These developments are pivotal in bolstering medical facilities in the region. Additionally, efforts are underway to transform the district medical college into a state-of-the-art center, further augmenting healthcare capabilities.

Infrastructure development in Barpeta includes the proposed circuit house and the Atal Uran Setu, a significant two-lane bridge spanning 753.510 meters between Barpeta and Sarupeta railway stations, representing an investment of Rs 53.23 crore. Ongoing projects across the state encompass road and bridge constructions and various upgrades, aimed at improving connectivity and accessibility.

Agricultural initiatives are focused on promoting natural farming practices, facilitated through 27 Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs/FPOs) managing nearly 25 acres of new plantations. Meanwhile, the PM Kisan Scheme supports a large number of farmers, with over 95,000 beneficiaries identified as payment-ready out of nearly 98,500 enrolled.

Water supply and housing sectors have also seen substantial progress. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, nearly 95% of households now have tap water connections, significantly improving access to clean water. The PMAYG program reports a high completion rate of 98.24% for sanctioned houses, benefitting over 301,000 households with ration cards distributed as well.

Social welfare initiatives include significant strides in employment, with nearly 1,000 individuals securing government jobs over the past two years. The Orunodoi Scheme has provided financial support to over 119,000 individuals, contributing to economic stability across communities. Additionally, support has been extended to 302 divyang and underprivileged beneficiaries through medical aid programs.

Cultural and sporting infrastructure has been bolstered with the introduction of guest houses, museums, libraries, community halls, and enhanced ambulance services statewide. Completion of the Kalgachia Sports Complex and progress on stadiums like Ram Rai, Dhemcha Pathar Playfield, and Chandni Baruah highlight the commitment to improving recreational facilities.

Looking forward, ongoing construction of the Sorbhog Mini Stadium exemplifies continued efforts to enhance sports infrastructure across Barpeta District, reflecting the government’s dedication to comprehensive development and improved quality of life for its residents.
