Assam’s Conviction Rate Sees Remarkable Improvement, DGP Highlights Ongoing Judicial Reforms
Guwahati, August 25 — In a significant stride towards enhanced law enforcement and judicial efficiency, Assam’s conviction rate has seen a notable increase, as highlighted by the state’s Director General of Police (DGP), GP Singh, during the Crime Conference held at the Police Headquarters in Guwahati.
DGP Singh reported that Assam’s conviction rate has risen from 13.5 percent in 2022 to an impressive 21.84 percent by July 2024. This improvement is attributed to ongoing judicial reforms and the state’s concerted efforts to enhance the effectiveness of criminal investigations.
“We are witnessing substantial improvements in our crime investigation processes. The increase in conviction rates is a testament to our commitment to strengthening judicial efficiency and ensuring justice for all. Our efforts are continuous, aiming to further improve these metrics and maintain public trust in the system,” said GP Singh.
In addition to the higher conviction rates, Singh also revealed a significant rise in the submission of charge sheets, with 64.56 percent of cases charge-sheeted in the first half of 2024, compared to 52.60 percent in 2023. This positive trend reflects the state’s dedication to improving law enforcement practices and expediting the judicial process.
The DGP’s remarks underscore Assam’s ongoing commitment to upholding justice and enhancing the state’s legal framework, demonstrating a clear focus on building a more effective and reliable justice system for its citizens.
