Assam’s Debabrata Saikia to move court against AIUDF MLA Karimuddin Barbhuiya
Guwahati: Congress leader Debabrata Saikia declared on Tuesday that he would file a lawsuit against All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Karimuddin Barbhuiya.
The cause was Barbhuiya’s assertion that he had proof that “at least 20 Congress members voted for Draupadi Murmu on the recent presidential election day.
According to the AIUDF MLA, there was a meeting of Congress and it was evident that Congress was voting against itself.
The AIUDF has 15 MLAs in the state assembly, however two of them were abroad and did not participate in the voting process.
Saikia, denying the allegations, stated that the state’s political system needed to be cleaned up at this point. “Nobody should believe that politics is a scoundrel’s final resort. The system needs to be cleaned up through ideology politics, thus it’s critical that some people are made public.”
He added that the opposition party has been using intimidation and seduction tactics to undermine Congress.
Earlier, state chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asserted that 22 opposition MLAs in the state had disobeyed their party rules by voting for Droupadi Murmu, the NDA’s candidate for president. He estimated that 15–16 of them belonged to the Congress.
