Assam’s DGP Emphasizes Peace’s Role in Economic Growth and Poverty Alleviation
Guwahati, 11th February: In a recent post on the microblogging site X, Assam’s Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh highlighted the indispensable role of peace in driving economic growth, fostering all-round development, enhancing quality of life, and alleviating poverty.
“Peace remains the sine qua non of economic growth, all-round development, quality of life, and poverty alleviation,” stated DGP Singh, reaffirming Assam Police’s steadfast commitment to maintaining a peaceful atmosphere in the state.
Singh’s remarks follow NITI Aayog’s commendation of Assam’s efforts in poverty alleviation. Recent data from NITI Aayog indicates a significant decline in the Poverty Headcount Ratio in Assam over the past nine years. From 36.97 per cent in 2013-14, the projected Poverty Headcount Ratio has plummeted to an estimated 14.47 per cent in 2022-23.
Speaking to India Today NE, DGP GP Singh underscored the police force’s dedication to upholding peace and order in the state, while also preventing crimes that could hinder economic growth.
“Every policeman is committed to maintaining the peaceful environment in the state, both in terms of law and order and preventing crimes that may hinder the state’s economic growth. Clear and positive directives from Honorable CM have had a significant impact on achieving our goals,” Singh affirmed.
