Assam’s Dhubri Jail Scandal: A Twisted Tale of Allegations and Counter-Allegations
Dhubri: The serene atmosphere of Dhubri District Jail has been shattered by a storm of allegations and counter-allegations.
At the heart of this controversy is Jail Superintendent Prashanta Rajbanshi, who, along with a prisoner, Majibur Rahman, and former jail guard Krishna Barman, has been accused of sexual harassment by a female guard, Deepshikha.
However, the narrative took a dramatic turn when Deepshikha’s mother publicly refuted her daughter’s claims. In a shocking revelation, the mother alleged that Deepshikha, in cahoots with her boyfriend, Kankan Barman, fabricated the allegations against Rajbanshi to secure a transfer. She further accused her daughter of physically assaulting her and forcefully evicting her from the jail quarters.
Superintendent Rajbanshi, vehemently denying the accusations, highlighted that he had already investigated a previous complaint filed by Deepshikha against Krishna Barman. The findings of this investigation were reportedly submitted to the Dhubri District Commissioner and the Inspector General of Prisons on November 26. He questioned the credibility of the fresh allegations, suggesting that they might be part of a larger scheme.
Adding fuel to the fire, jail authorities disclosed that Deepshikha’s salary had been withheld for a few days due to unauthorized absence from duty.
As the controversy deepens, local residents and activists have demanded a thorough and impartial investigation to unravel the truth. The authorities are expected to initiate a detailed inquiry to address the conflicting claims and ensure justice prevails.
