Assam’s Finance Minister to Present State Budget for FY 2024-25
Guwahati, 12th February: Assam’s Finance Minister, Ajanta Neog, is gearing up to present the state budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 in the State Legislative Assembly on Monday, February 12, marking her fourth budget presentation. Neog has emphasized that this budget will be grounded in realism.
The ongoing budget session of the state assembly, which commenced on February 5 and concludes on February 28, sets the stage for Neog’s budget address. In the previous fiscal year, Neog presented a budget with an estimated aggregate expenditure of Rs 3.21 lakh crore.
Meanwhile, in an effort to combat fraudulent healing practices in the state, the Assam cabinet, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, approved the Assam Healing (Prevention of Evil) Practices Bill, 2024. This significant move aims to provide relief to victims of deceptive magical treatments.
Announcing the cabinet’s decision, Assam Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah highlighted the bill’s objective of safeguarding individuals from fraudulent healing practices.
Furthermore, the cabinet sanctioned the establishment of the Wildlife Safari & Rescue Centre in the Namdang Reserved Forest, Dibrugarh district. With an estimated cost of Rs 259 crore, the project aims to offer rescue and rehabilitation services for the region’s wildlife, underscoring the government’s commitment to environmental conservation and animal welfare.
