Assam’s Ipsita Pratap Named First International Student Advisor for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention
Guwahati, 20th March: Ipsita Pratap, a native of Lakhimpur, Assam, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first international student appointed as a young advisor for mental health and suicide prevention. Her relentless advocacy efforts have garnered attention globally, with Ipsita engaging directly with prominent figures like the Australian Prime Minister in Canberra over the past year.
Hailing from Assam, Ipsita has forged impactful collaborations with key figures in the Australian government, including Dr. Anne Kelly, Assistant Minister of Mental Health, and Emma McBride, to address critical mental health challenges. Her contributions extend to working alongside government agencies such as the National Mental Health Commission (NMHC) and the National Suicide Prevention Office (NSPO).
Ipsita’s dedication and expertise in mental health advocacy have been lauded with prestigious accolades. In 2021, she was honored with the Anne Kantor Fellowship, underscoring her unwavering commitment to the cause. As a fellow, Ipsita has embarked on a new chapter, joining the Australian Institute to contribute to scientific policy reforms and consultations, further solidifying her impact in the field.
