Assam’s Kokrajhar Gears Up for Crucial Third Phase of Elections on May 7

Guwahati, 6th May: As the electoral excitement sweeps through Kokrajhar, the district braces itself for the pivotal third phase of elections scheduled for May 7. With nine Legislative Assembly constituencies under the 1 No Kokrajhar Lok Sabha Constituency, all eyes are on the impending electoral showdown.

Preparations are in full swing as polling apparatus, comprising presiding officers and polling officials, converge at Basic Training Centres to collect essential poll materials for deployment across designated polling stations. The electoral process is set to commence promptly at 7 am on May 7, expecting the enthusiastic participation of a staggering 1,494,404 voters. Among them, 741,328 are male, and 743,236 are female, reflecting the vibrant democratic ethos thriving within Kokrajhar.

A total of 1,862 polling stations have been earmarked for the electoral exercise, with 296 stations identified as critical due to various factors. Pradeep Kumar Dwivedi, Kokrajhar’s Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer, assured meticulous arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of free and fair elections across the district’s five Assembly constituencies – Gossaigaon, Dotma, Kokrajhar, Baokhungri, and Parbhatjhora.

The forthcoming electoral battle, set against a backdrop of robust security measures, holds profound significance for the region. With 12 candidates vying for victory, the electorate stands at a pivotal juncture, ready to exercise its democratic right in favor of good governance, peace, and security.
