Assam’s Mission Basundhara Empowers Marginalized Communities
Guwahati, 9th February: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has unveiled statistics showcasing the remarkable progress of the state’s ambitious Mission Basundhara initiative, marking a significant milestone in uplifting marginalized communities. Sarma revealed that out of the 2,29,659 individuals offered settlement under the program, an astounding 1,95,000 belong to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC).
Sarma emphasized the transformative vision driving Mission Basundhara, stating, “This government… we want to give a message… Assam has changed now.” He reiterated his dedication to propelling Assam forward, firmly rejecting regressive politics that threaten to hinder the state’s developmental journey.
“We will not worship families; we will pray to Mother Assam; we will pray to Mother India,” Sarma proclaimed, encapsulating the essence of a ‘New Assam’ and ‘New India,’ where patriotism transcends the interests of a privileged few.
Mission Basundhara, a flagship program aimed at providing land settlement to deserving citizens, has emerged as a symbol of inclusive governance under Sarma’s leadership. The Chief Minister highlighted the program’s success in extending opportunities to historically marginalized segments of society, with 30,000 individuals from the General category also benefiting from land allocations.
“This is New Assam, where Rashtrabhakti takes precedence over serving the interests of a select few,” Sarma affirmed.
