Assam’s Path to Prosperity: CM Sarma Pledges Stronger State Amid University Convocation
Guwahati: Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, declared the state’s trajectory towards becoming one of India’s most powerful entities, attributing this progress to a foundation of peace and prosperity forged by positive mindset and communal hard work.
This declaration occurred during his address at the 32nd Convocation of Gauhati University, where he underscored India’s advancement through the cornerstones of culture, education, science, and the arts. In a significant move, he also committed a financial endowment of Rs 250 crore aimed at the comprehensive development of the university.
“As the nation forges ahead, Assam is concurrently morphing into a region characterized by peace and prosperity. Through constructive thought and collaborative endeavors, Assam is resolutely advancing towards its goal of becoming one of the nation’s most robust states,” the Chief Minister articulated. He further emphasized the critical role of cultivating a new generation of students, individuals who are not only innovative thinkers but also aspiring entrepreneurs, poised to tackle challenges and shape the future via startup ventures.
“The aspirations and inventive capacities of our students are the bedrock of innovation, and a New Assam demands the vigor of youth who dare to dream ambitiously and reach for the stars. Today, Assam is a land brimming with hope, a place where dreams materialize into achievements. Assam has transitioned from a dependent state to a proud contributor to the nation,” Sarma stated. He assured the graduating cohort of the government’s commitment to creating ample opportunities within Assam for them to realize their ambitions.
The convocation, also graced by Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, witnessed the conferral of degrees upon 3,593 bachelor’s and master’s students, alongside 148 PhD recipients. Honorary PhDs were bestowed upon Dr. Amal Chandra Kataki, Tapan Kumar Saikia, and Chowna Mein. Sarma extended his sincere congratulations to all graduates and expressed gratitude to the faculty, parents, and families for their unwavering support.
In a parallel address, Governor Acharya urged Gauhati University to actively participate in the collective effort to position India as a global epicenter for education, innovation, and values.
