Assam’s People Celebrates ‘Buka Bihu’ in Majuli

Guwahati: People all throughout Assam are celebrating Rongali Bihu, also known as Bohag Bihu with great fervour.

According to reports, the Satras or Vaisnaviate Monasteries in Majuli observed the event in their own unique fashion on Friday.

Buka Bihu is a type of Bihu that is commemorated by mud stomping. Mud, according to the saints, aids in the prevention of many skin ailments.

People across the river island Majuli celebrated ‘Buka Bihu,’ which is central to Satras.

The Auniati Satra’s saints follow a 369-year-old tradition known as ‘Buka Khel.’

At a time when the state celebrates Manuh Bihu on the first day of the Assamese month ‘Bohag,’ the people of the river island district celebrated Buka Bihu across the several Satras.
