Assam’s Power Scenario Shows Significant Improvement, Says CM Himanta Biswa Sarma
Guwahati – Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has highlighted the notable advancements in Assam’s power scenario, attributing these improvements to sustained investments in the power sector. The chief minister emphasized that these developments have effectively managed supply shortfalls while enhancing the average power availability across the state.
Sarma reported that rural areas in Assam now enjoy over 22 hours of power availability daily, while urban areas benefit from more than 23 hours. These improvements underscore the state’s commitment to bolstering its power infrastructure and ensuring reliable electricity for all residents.
Earlier this month, the Assam Government, through the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL), addressed and debunked prevalent myths regarding smart meters, explaining their significant advantages for consumers.
In a statement, the government clarified that smart prepaid meters offer numerous benefits, including enhanced energy conservation and cost efficiency. Contrary to common beliefs, smart meters do not lead to increased electricity bills; users have reported up to a 50% reduction in consumption compared to previous postpaid periods. The system also facilitates easy recharging, provides emergency credit of ₹300, and allows for old bills to be paid in small daily installments.
These initiatives reflect Assam’s ongoing efforts to modernize its power infrastructure and provide better services to its citizens.
