Assam’s Railway Electrification Reaches Milestone with Successful Golakganj-Fakiragram Trial Run
Guwahati: A significant leap in Assam’s railway modernization unfolded on March 19th, as the inaugural electric locomotive trial journey between Golakganj (GKJ) in Dhubri and Fakiragram (FKM) in Kokrajhar was executed flawlessly.
The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), under the purview of the Alipurduar Division, orchestrated this crucial test, signifying a pivotal advancement in the region’s infrastructural transformation.
The electric locomotive traversed the designated route with seamless efficiency, providing clear evidence that the track is now ready for the introduction of routine electric train services. Throughout the trial, railway authorities and specialized technical personnel maintained meticulous oversight, guaranteeing adherence to stringent operational and safety protocols.
This electrification endeavour forms an integral part of the Indian Railways’ overarching strategy to bolster connectivity within the Northeast, aiming to optimize operational effectiveness, shorten travel durations, and promote environmentally sustainable transport solutions. The transition to electric-powered trains is anticipated to significantly enhance both passenger comfort and freight transportation capabilities, while simultaneously diminishing reliance on traditional fuel sources.
