Assam’s Tezpur Litchi Makes Its Way To UK
Guwahati: Litchi from Assam’s Tezpur was set to break into the UK market as part of a big boost to the export of indigenous and GI-tagged famed Litchi; a batch of Litchi will be shipped to London.
Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the export of Tezpur Litchi which has been given a geographical indication (GI) tag for its excellent quality and pleasant flavour, to London by Agnigarh Farmer Producer Company through Kiega Exims at the Tezpur Convention Center in Sonitpur district on Saturday
Kiega Exims is a partnership between AAU, the Agriculture Department, Sonitpur, and NABARD, with funding from APEDA, APART, BNCA, AAU, Tezpur University, and the district administration.
“Exporting litchis will help to improve the economic situation of small and marginal farmers in the district,” Sarma said.
