Guwahati, 7th May: As the third phase of Lok Sabha elections unfolded in Assam, the four constituencies witnessed a robust voter turnout, reaching 63.08% by 3 pm, as confirmed by an election official.
Leading the voter participation was Dhubri with a remarkable polling percentage of 65.51%, closely followed by Barpeta at 65.20%, Kokrajhar at 63.64%, and Guwahati at 57.47% by the same hour.
The ongoing polling, which commenced at 7 am and is scheduled to conclude at 5 pm, is pivotal for the 47 candidates vying for victory in these crucial constituencies.
Of particular significance is the participation of six women candidates in the final phase of polling in Assam. The spotlight shines on the prestigious Guwahati seat, where both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress have fielded female candidates — Bijuli Kalita Medhi and Mira Borthakur Goswami, respectively.
As the electorate exercises its democratic right, all eyes are on the outcome of this phase, which will shape the political landscape in Assam and contribute to the larger narrative of the Lok Sabha elections.
