ASTC Bus Seized after Driver’s Misbehaviour in Guwahati
Guwahati: The transport department has seized a bus operated by the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) after a complaint regarding the alleged misbehaviour of the bus driver was made on Saturday.
The action was taken after receiving a complaint from Arunabh Chaliha regarding the bus driver’s improper conduct on the Adabari-Basistha route in Guwahati on Friday. The bus’s driver’s licence has been retained for suspension.
Chaliha brought the matter to the notice of Assam Transport Minister Parimal Suklabaidya and Secretary of the Transport department, Adil Khan through twitter.
Following this, a case was filed against the driver under Section 182 (2) for offences such inappropriate behaviour, using foul language and reckless driving.
“Following a complaint, the bus driver was requested to appear before the DTO enforcement wing. Under Section 182 (2), a case was filed against the driver for violations of the conductor licence, inappropriate behaviour, using abusive words, and driving recklessly. The now-seized car is being held in custody. The driver’s licence is also retained for suspension,” said Khan.
Suklabaidya has stated that as part of its zero-tolerance policy, any employee of the public transportation system who engages in major wrongdoing will face harsh punishment.
