Atishi to Become Delhi’s Youngest Chief Minister in Historic Appointment

National Desk, 21st September: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi is set to make history as Delhi’s youngest Chief Minister, with her swearing-in ceremony scheduled for 4:30 pm on Saturday at Raj Bhavan. Alongside Atishi, five other AAP MLAs, including Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Imran Hussain, will join the new council of ministers. Mukesh Ahlawat, a first-time MLA from Sultanpur Majra, will also make his debut as a key Dalit representative in the Delhi Cabinet.

Atishi’s ascension follows her unanimous selection as Chief Minister-designate during an AAP legislature party meeting, a decision that came after Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation. Kejriwal, who stepped down after being granted bail in connection with a corruption case, has left the door open for a return, stating he would only do so if the people of Delhi validated his integrity in the upcoming Assembly elections.

A Rhodes Scholar and Oxford University alumna, Atishi will become the third woman to lead the national capital, joining the ranks of Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit. Her appointment is anticipated to bring new energy to Delhi’s political landscape, with potential reshuffling in ministerial portfolios, particularly in key areas like finance, PWD, power, and education.
