Australian cricketer Andrew Symonds dies in car crash

Guwahati: Andrew Symonds, the Australian cricket star died in a car accident in Queensland on Sunday, according to Australian media.

Symonds scored two centuries in 26 Test matches for Australia. He represented Australia in 198 One-Day Internationals and was a member of two World Cup victories.

On Saturday night, May 14, Andrew Symonds was apparently involved in a single car accident in Hervey Range, 50 kilometres from Townsville.

The news of Andrew Symonds’ death has surprised and saddened the Australian cricket board.

“Australian cricket has lost another of its very finest,” stated Cricket Australia Chairperson Lachlan Henderson. “Andrew was a once-in-a-generation player who contributed to Australia’s World Cup win as well as Queensland’s rich cricket legacy”, he added.

Henderson further stated that on behalf of Australian cricket their deepest sympathies are with Andrew’s family, team-mates, and friends.
