Aviation Minister Addresses Delhi Airport Terminal 1 Roof Collapse
National Desk, 28th June: Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu addressed the tragic incident at Terminal 1 of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, where a roof collapse resulted in one fatality and injuries to six others.
Minister Kinjarapu clarified that the collapsed structure was part of the older section of Terminal 1, constructed in 2009. Responding to claims from the Congress that the collapsed roof was from the expanded Terminal 1 inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March 2024, Kinjarapu emphasized that the new building is located separately from the old structure.
“We are taking this incident very seriously,” stated the Aviation Minister in response to the mishap.
He announced compensation of Rs 20 lakh for the family of the deceased victim and Rs 3 lakh each for the injured individuals. Kinjarapu assured that further details about the incident will be disclosed only after a thorough investigation, including technical reports.
Expressing condolences for the loss of life, Kinjarapu highlighted the immediate response by emergency teams including fire safety, CISF, and NDRF. These teams conducted extensive inspections to ensure no further casualties occurred.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family affected by this tragic incident,” added the minister, reaffirming the government’s commitment to ensuring safety and rigorous investigation into the circumstances surrounding the roof collapse.
